There are a number of major works of original art listed on this page that we offer for sale. Chief among these are such masterworks works by artists from around the world dating as early as the 17th century and into the 20th century. The first selection includes original graphic art by 19th & 20th and twentieth century American artists; beginning with four graphic works of art by Sigmund Abeles, entitled, Max / Shabbat (The Artist's Son, Maxwell Merck Abeles and his mother, Anne Merck-Abeles on Sabbath), Pietrasanta Carver (Portrait of the Sculptor & Photographer, Anne Merck), Self Portrait Shaved (Portrait of the Artist, Sigmund Abeles), and The Artist's Mother (Henrietta Banner Abeles). They are followed by Chaim Koppelman's original lithograph, Not There, an original lithograph entitled, Bouquet by Arnold Blanch, an original lithograph & pastel drawing entitled, Dubrovnik by twentieth century Yugoslav/American artist, Savo Radulovic, an original silkscreen, with an abstract composition by Randall Timmons, and an original silkscreen entitled, by La Mer by Doug West. Also included in this selection are two original 19th century wood engravings, historical periodicals published by Harper's Weekly, both designed by the important American artist, Thomas Nast, entitled The Day We Celebrate (April First) Toast; We are not all Dead, and The Elephant Walks Around - And the Still Hunt is Nearly Over. These two Thomas Nast engravings satirize, and directly confront the political corruption, and coercion that allegedly took place during the '1876 Presidential Election' of Samuel Tilden and Rutherford Hayes & the impacts of the 'Compromise of 1877'.
In the second selection, nineteenth century French lithography is represented with a selection of original lithographs such works feature, Jeux d'enfants (Children's Games) by Henri Charles Antoine Baron, 'Henri Baron', Nymphe bocagere (Woodland Nymph) by Charles Joshua Chaplin designed by Philippe Auguste Jeanron, Un Chemin (A Road) by Francois Louis Francais, a landscapes, Pecheur Champenois (Fisherman of Champagne) by Hector Martin, Une Source (A Source, Particularly of a Stream or River) by Celestin-Francois Nanteuil, and 20th century French art is represented with an original lithograph entitled, Sailboats in the Harbor by Kostia-B (Jeanin Kostia-Blancheteau).
Also included here are three 'Ex Libris' book plates, an original wood engraving, Ex-Libris Harvey Simmonds (Caltha, Ranunculaceae) by the American artist, Clare Leighton (Clare Veronica Hope Leighton), an original etching by the Czechoslovakian artist, Vitezslav Fleissig, Ex Libris Elizabeth Watson Diamond (Alpine Chateau, Mountaineering), and an original wood engraving entitled, Ex-Libris Julio C. Salvatierra ‘Nostalgia de Mallorca (Majorca) by the Spanish artist, Carlos Puntis Nebot.
This next grouping contains artwork by 18th and 19th century British painters and printmakers, starting with an original engravings by Thomas Ryder and Thomas Ryder, Junior entitled, Her Most Gracious Majesty, Queen Charlotte based upon a painting created by the British artist, Sir William Beechey, published by John Boydell for his 'Shakspeare Gallery' set, followed by an original hand-colored etching and aquatint by Thomas Rowlandson entitled, Doctor Syntax, Copying the Wit of the Window (The Poetical Magazine), an original 'Baxter type', Her Majesty at Balmoral Castle (From the 'Regal Set') by Robert and Abraham Leblond, LeBlond & Co, London, and two original lithographs published by Charles Tilt, London for Sketches at Home and Abroad; these include, Frankfort (Frankfurt am Main), and Nauders, Tyrol (Tirol), both by James Duffield Harding, and an original 19th century etching entitled, Sisters of Mercy by Mathew Lawless, from the 1862 portfolio, Passages from Modern English Poets Illustrated by the Junior Etching Club.
Japanese art is represented by an original Tachibana Morikuni woodcut, "Egret and Rush" from the Unpitsu soga (Moving Brush in Rough or Rapid Painting), an original woodcut, Beautiful Woman from the Tale of Genji (Nise murasaki inaka genji), by Kunisada, two original 19th century woodcuts from the One Hundred Pictures by Kyosai (Kyosai Hyakuzu), created by Kawanabe Kyosai entitled, Kaeru no ko wa kaeru to naru (The Child of a Frog Becomes a Frog), Kaeru no tsura e mizu (Water on a Frog's Skin), and Jigoku de Hotoke, A Buddha in Hell (Japanese Proverbs & Folklore, Yokai, Oni, & other Supernatural Beings). Twentieth century Japanese art is represented with two original hand-stenciled dye prints,one by Takeshi Nishijima entitled, Calendar for October, 1975 (Jidai-Matsuri Pageant, Kyoto), and the other by Keisuke Serizawa entitled, Calendar for July 1968 (Japanese Festivals & Events: Umi no Hin, Tanabata, & Obon), and closing with, an original sumi-e-painting entitled, Grass, Sky and Wind by the 20th century Japanese artist, Shizu.
This final selection features various important works by painters and printmakers not listed above, such as the 17th century Flemish etching entitled, "Madonna of the Cherries" by Lucas Vorsterman, the Younger after a design by David Teniers, the Younger and Titian 'Tiziano Vecellio', an original 16th century German Renaissance woodcut , A Messenger Appears to Hannibal in Carthage (Romische Historien by Titi Livij) by Conrad Faber von Kreuznach from Titus Livy's Roman History (Romische Historien), And Lastly, 20th century Canadian art is represented with an original wood engraving by Gerard Brender a Brandis entitled, Cyclamen (Genus of 22 recognized species of perennials).
