Note: | La Gaceta Callejera: La Adultera is illustrated on p. 57. The authors, however, state that the real title to this engraving is 'Enrique Rode dando muerte a su mujer Amelia Sornoza' ('Enrique Rode Killing his Wife, Amelia Sornza') and that it underwent significant alterations. It first appeared in the newspaper, El Teatro, in 1891, and included the husband to the left shooting his wife. Two years later the plate was cut down to feature only the horrified woman and appeared in the Gaceta Callejera as 'La Adultera' ('The Adulteress'). One image can serve many functions. |
