They have published some of the finest original graphic works of art. If you wish to view the entire list and access this information, please go to the www.artoftheprint.com (Featured Publisher's History) page . You will find a brief history for most of the publishers listed.
American Artists Group: During the years of the Great Depression the American Artists Group was a leading publisher of original lithographs and woodcuts. Artists such as Warren Newcombe, Alan Lewis, Emil Ganso and many others were commissioned for works of art. Prints commissioned by the AAG were not hand-signed nor numbered in specific editions but it is known that the publishers usually printed only two hundred impressions from the stone or woodblock.
Thomas Nelson: The Scottish publisher, Thomas Nelson was well known for his chromolithographic views. Among these the most notable were his two great series, English Scenery (1891) and Souvenir of Scotland (1895). The complete series of Souvenir of Scotland contained 120 miniature views detailing the cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, the scenery along the Clyde, the Trosachs, Loch Lomond, the West Highlands and of Southern Scotland. These miniature views have long been considered to be among the finest of the nineteenth century. The amazing detailing combined with the myriad of shades and colours places each of Nelson's views in the front rank of fine art colour lithography.
Vervielfaltigende Kunst: A Viennese art publisher, "Vervielfaltigende Kunst" issued its first original graphic work in 1871. During the following sixty years, it published masterworks by Austrian, German, Swiss, French, Czech and English artists. More internationally focused and less conservative than most print publishers of the time, it took a leading role in the revival of original graphic art. Vervielfaltigende Kunst is now regarded as one of the most vital art publishers of its day and individual prints from this publication are highly coveted by collectors.
