Associated American Artists: the Associated American Artists of New York was founded in the mid 1930's. The Associated American Artists commissioned original graphic art from such great masters as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, Reginald Marsh and others. It published etchings and lithographs of no less stature during the 1960's as contributing artists included Jack Levine, Chaim Koppelman, Joseph Margulies, James Kearns, Irwin D. Hoffman and Sidney Chafetz.

Vervielfaltigende Kunst: A Viennese art publisher, "Vervielfaltigende Kunst" issued its first original graphic work in 1871. During the following sixty years, it published masterworks by Austrian, German, Swiss, French, Czech and English artists. More internationally focused and less conservative than most print publishers of the time, it took a leading role in the revival of original graphic art. Vervielfaltigende Kunst is now regarded as one of the most vital art publishers of its day and individual prints from this publication are highly coveted by collectors.

Condition:	Each of the three sheets of this triptych is printed on nineteenth century Japanese mulberry (rice) paper and contains full margins as was published in 1890 by Komori Sojiro. Contains one small repaired hole (upper right corner), which has been skillfully restored by a previous owner. Also, the three sheets have been joined together, as was common in early twentieth century collections. Else, it is a fine early printing and in excellent condition throughout. This original triptych stands as a fine example of the nineteenth century art of Toyohara Kunichika, one of the last great masters of the Japanese woodcut. Signed in the block (Lower right corner), 'Toyohara Kunichika hitsu'.

Altogether, this original woodcut triptych of Three Actors in a Kabuki Play represents a prime example of the art of Kunichika.

'Fireworks at Ryogoku Bridge' is a scarce and early woodcut and represents a very important example of the art of Kunimaru.

	Sangi Hitoshi hails from one of Kunisada's greatest series of woodcuts, the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu. This classic anthology of 100 poems by 100 different poets had an immense influence upon Japanese literary culture from its creation to quite recent times. It was compiled by the poet, Fujiwara no Sadaie in the thirteenth century and contained court poetry composed from as far back as the seventh century. Each poem was composed in the traditional 'waka' style which was five lines of 31 syllables.

Condition:	This original Japanese woodcut is printed on 19th century Japanese mulberry (rice) paper and with full margins as published in the Kyosai Hyakuzu (One Hundred Pictures by Kyosai), between 1881 - 1886. The Spectral Cat (Japanese Folklore, Yokai, Bakeneko) is a finely printed impression and in excellent condition throughout.

Condition:	Printed on very thin nineteenth century Japanese mulberry (rice) paper and with a probable trimming of the English title along the upper margin. One browning stain is noticeable to the upper right, else a strong, early impression and in very good condition throughout. The Style of Painting of Kano Koi represents a beautiful, original example of the famous woodcut art of Kawanabe Kyosai.
