Note:	Edmond Charles Joseph Yon 'Edmond Yon': A nineteenth century French etcher and painter of landscapes and river views, Edmond Charles Joseph Yon studied in Paris under Jean Achille Pouget and Justin Lequien. His art was first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1865 and he continued to regularly show both etchings and paintings there until near the century's end. Edmond Yon's art was awarded medals from the Salon in both 1875 and 1879 and, in 1889, he received a Gold Medal from the Exposition Universale Edmond Yon was elected a Chevalier of France's Legion of Honour in 1886.
	In both his paintings and original etchings Edmond Yon was a master of atmospheric effects. Most often his preferred subjects were river and coastal views in both France and Holland. 	Today the art of Edmond Yon is included in public museums in Amiens, Anvers, Calais, Lille, Louviers, Paris and elsewhere.
	Philip Gilbert Hamerton, "Landscape" London, 1885: No writer did more to champion the public's awareness of original etching as a fine art form during the mid nineteenth century than Philip Gilbert Hamerton. His first major contribution, Etchings and Etchers, was published in 1868 and caused many fine artists to favor the etching needle over the paint brush. As well, the now famous first edition of this book included original etchings by Whistler, Haden, Palmer, Cope and old masters such as Waterloo.
	In 1885 Hamerton again sought contributions from leading contemporary etchers. The first edition of Landscape (from which this original etching comes) contained work by Stephen Parrish, Joseph Pennell, Edmond Yon, Colin Hunter, E. P. Brandard, Heywood Hardy, Alfred Dawson and Maxime Lalanne.

Signed in the plate to the lower left by the artist. A beautifully printed impression and in excellent condition throughout.
