Anna Wong: A contemporary Canadian artist,
Anna Wong graduated from the Vancouver School of Art, British Columbia,
Canada, with a degree in creative printmaking. She also studied Chinese
brush painting in Hong Kong. In the 1960's her original prints received
several international prizes and in 1969 she was awarded a Canada Council
grant. She also represented Canada in a number print biennials, including
that of Ljubljana, Yugoslavia. |

Around 1970 Anna Wong moved to New York to
work and study at the Pratt Graphics Center. In all probability Maple
in the Sky was printed and published at this famous workshop. During
this time her graphic art was also illustrated in Artist's Proof: The
Annual of Prints and Printmaking. |
Provenance: |
From the collection of Roger Trlak and bearing
his inventory number, 'T-1585', on the verso. Roger Trlak (1934-1975)
established the commercial art company of Martin-Trlak in Chicago. In
1972 he also opened the RST Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona where he exhibited
not only his own large collection of mostly contemporary art but also
held important exhibitions of many modern artists. These Included such
major American and international printmakers as Joseph Hirsch, Luigi Lucioni,
Jacob Landau, Birgit Skiold and Paul Wunderlich. Among Trlak's closest
friends in the arts community were Raphael Soyer, Ivan Albright and Hans
Burkhardt. Contemporary prints and paintings were constantly exhibited
at the RST Gallery until it was closed in 1975 due to Trlak's untimely
death. |

Condition: |
Printed upon hand-made paper and with full,
deckled margins as published around 1970 in the limited edition of twenty
impressions. Signed, titled and numbered, '9/20', by the artist in pencil
along the lower margin. Containing a blindstamp of a 'w' in a circle to
the lower right. A strong, rich impression and in excellent condition
throughout. This original lithograph of Maple in the Sky
represents a fine example of the art of Anna Wong. |
