Note:	Georg Andreas Wolfgang: A seventeenth century German engraver and goldsmith, Georg Andreas Wolfgang first apprenticed as an engraver of swords and other weapons. He then studied the art of engraving under Mattheus Kussel. During the following years Wolfgang produced both engravings and mezzotints after such masters as Holbein, Schonfeldt, Werner, Zierl and others. He also engraved a considerable number of works after his own design. Such is the case with Pastoral Scene from Ovid.
	In 1664 Wolfgang created four engravings based upon the poetry of Ovid. All were composed in a circular format and represent fine examples of 17th century German landscape engraving. His son, Johann Georg Wolfgang (1664-1748), was also an accomplished engraver.

Condition:	Printed upon seventeenth century hand-made, laid paper and with thread margins as usual. Re-margined by a former owner with thick, laid paper. Signed and dated by Wolfgang within the plate along the lower border. A strongly printed, early impression and in excellent condition throughout. Pastoral Scene from Ovid represents a prime, original example of the 17th century engraved art of Georg Andreas Wolfgang.
