Urd Von Hentig: A well respected contemporary German painter, printmaker and illustrator, Urd Von Hentig had already established an international reputation by 1955. In the following year he was invited to participate in the Contemporary German Graphics Exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, Texas, along with such artists as Paul Wunderlich, Willi Titze and Wolf Hoffmann. Since that time, many museums around the world have included Von Hentig's art in their permanent collections and exhibitions.
A distinguishing characteristic of Von Hentig's art is the inspiration he draws from his passion for travel and his experiences of different cultures. A major artist of the book, he has illustrated works in German, English, Norwegian and Swedish. He has even illustrated three books of folklore in the native dialect of Eritrea! In 1978, Urd Von Hentig was commissioned to produce an important portfolio of landscape etchings and engravings of America, entitled, Urd Von Hentig: Amerikanische Landschafton. A full monograph has been written by Cornelius Steckner -- Urd Von Hentig: Werkverzeichnis 1952-1990, Heidleberg, 1991.
