Richard Volpe: A twentieth century American
printmaker, painter, playwright and actor, Richard Volpe studied both art
and writing techniques at Ohio Wesleyan University, Denver University,
The University of New Mexico and at the University of Nevada. Richard Volpe
first gained national attention for his writing and, in 1966, he received
the Samuel French Award for one of his plays. He first experimented with
etching in 1965 and, during the following years, created a number of works
of art in this medium, most dealing with landscapes and animal depictions.
The artist spent considerable time both working and living in the Pacific
coast regions.

During his career, the art of Richard Volpe has been the
subject of more than twenty-five one man exhibitions. Today his fine art
is included in the permanent collections of the University of Delaware,
the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art
Museum. |

Printed upon fine, archival paper and with full margins as
published by Ferdinand Roten in the limited edition of seventy-five signed
impressions. Containing the publisher's 'FR' blindstamp
in the lower left margin. Signed, titled and numbered, '69/75',
by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. Containing slight light
toning in the outer margins, else a finely printed, full color impression
and in very good condition throughout. "California Coast" represents a striking,
original example of the art of Richard Volpe. |
