Note: Marjorie Tomchuk: A contemporary printmaker, Marjorie Tomchuk was born in Canada but has resided in the United States since 1953. She studied art at the University of Michigan, earning both a BA and an MA. She then taught art in Tokyo and studied woodblock printing techniques there at Sophia University, under Toshi Yoshida. In 1965, the artist moved to New York where she both worked and studied at the Pratt Graphics Center. Since 1970, Marjorie Tomchuk has worked from her studio in New Canaan, Connecticut.
  Examples of Marjorie Tomchuk's embossed works on paper are today included in the following major collections; The Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC, the Library of Congress, the Nelson Gallery, Kansas City, the Butler Institute of American Art, the Denver Art Museum and the National Air and Space Museum. Corporate collections include IBM, Xerox, Monsanto, General Electric and the Hewlett-Packard Company.
  Throughout her printmaking career Marjorie Tomchuk has concentrated upon the three-dimensional qualities of embossing. Furthermore, in 1980, she installed a mill in her studio and began producing her own hand-made papers. In her abstract prints Tomchuk often uses space or landscape as the starting point for her finely sculpted compositions. Art 81 Washington was created by the artist as a poster for Washington's annual exhibition of art.
