The American artist, Agnes Tait (Agnes Gabrielle Tait), was a master of figure studies, portraits and landscapes. "Delphina" is a superb example of her work in the art of original lithography. This original impression of "Delphina" is printed upon 'Rives' watermarked paper and with full deckled margins as published during the American Depression Era in 1940. It is signed in pencil by the artist, Agnes Tait to the lower right. |

Note: | Agnes Gabrielle Tait 'Agnes Tait': An outstanding American painter, printmaker and illustrator, Agnes Tait studied at the National Academy of Design (1908-1918), under Leon Kroll and Charles Hinton. She began exhibiting her art as early as 1915 and during the subsequent years her prints and paintings were included in major exhibitions at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Corcoran Museum, the National Academy of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. During the 1920's and 1930's, Agnes Tait lived and maintained a studio in New York's Greenwich Village. At this time she also modeled for George Bellows and other New York artists. |
Agnes Tait first turned to lithography during the Depression era of the 1930's. As well she was frequently employed as a mural painter, most notably for Manhattan's Bellevue Hospital. In 1941 Tait moved permanently to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she continued with both painting and printmaking and began illustrating children's books. Today the art of Agnes Gabrielle Tait is included in the following collections; The University of Michigan Museum of Art, the Museum of New Mexico, Library of Congress, Washington, DC, Yale University Art Gallery, New York Public Library and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. | |
