Richard Thompson Taggart 'Richard Taggart': A twentieth century California
painter, Richard Taggart began his art education in Indiana, under Paul
Hadley. He moved to California at the age of fifteen (1919), and concluded
his studies under Jean Mannheim and Alson S. Clark, and at the Stickney
Art Institute. He first resided in Sierra Madre before moving permanently
to Altadena. |

Richard Taggart was equally well respected for his figure
studies, still lifes, landscape and marine views. He was an exhibiting
member of such institutions as the Painters and Sculptors of Los Angeles,
Carmel Art Association, Laguna Beach Art Association, California Art Club
and the Pasadena Society of Artists. He also served a President of the
Pasadena Society of Artists from 1941 to 1943. Today the art of Richard
Thompson Taggart is included in many private collections as well as in
major public collections, such as the Crocker Art Museum. |
