Bela Sziklay's original hand-coloured etching, "Ponte Rialto" (Rialto Bridge, Venice, Italy) is printed upon wove paper and with large margins as created around 1935 - 1940. This impression is singed, titled and annotated, 'Aquaforte originale' (original etching), in pencil along the lower margin. The etching depicts a typical busy day along the Grand Canal, Venice with a view of the Ponte Rialto, the bridge that connects the districts of San Polo and San Marco. Here we see people walking across the bridge while gondolas pass under this ancient architecture. "Ponte Rialto" is a fine, original example of the landscape & architectural art created by the Hungarian artist, Bela Sziklay.

Note:	Bela Sziklay: A fine Hungarian artist, Bela Sziklay, first studied art in his native Hungary, and at the age of twenty three continued his artistic studies in France. At the end of 1934 Sziklay decided to move to Italy where he spent his career as an artist specializing in etching scenes of landmarks in Venice, Florence, Rome and other locations. His etchings were sold in both black and white and hand-colored versions. According to Luigi Sziklay, his father also created a portrait of Pope Pius 12, and both he and his wife were invited by the Pope to a private audience. Bela Sziklay held many sole exhibitions in Rome, Tuscany, Florence, Montecantini, Venice and elsewhere. The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco includes several Bela Sziklay etchings in its permanent collection.
	This original etching depicts a typical busy day along the Grand Canal, Venice with a view of the Ponte Rialto, the bridge that connects the districts of San Polo and San Marco. Here we see people walking across the bridge while gondolas pass under its ancient architecture. The historic "Ponte Rialto" (Rialto Bridge, Venice) is the oldest bridge that crosses the Grand Canal. Although it was highly criticized after its completion around 1591/92, the Ponte Rialto is now considered, by many, as the most beautiful and most famous of the four bridges that span the canal. The structure has two narrow walkways (mostly steps), along its outer balustrades and a wider central walkway between two rows of small shops housed under a series of twelve stone arches, six on either side of the taller central arch. To complete this beautiful structure, the bridge wall facing San Silvestro is adorned with the carved stone figures of Saint Mark and Saint Theodore, while the opposite wall is adorned with the angel Gabriel, the Virgin Mary and the Holy Ghost. "Ponte Rialto" (Rialto Bridge, Venice) is a striking example of his landscape and architectural Venice art of Bela Sziklay.

"Ponte Rialto" (Rialto Bridge, Venice) , represents a prime, original example of the etched art of Bela Sziklay.
