|
On the Spanish Main is a creation of the famous American
Art Deco movement of the 1920's and 1930's. The bold and powerful designs
of Art Deco arose as a reaction against the flowery lines and patterns
of Art Nouveau. Led by such great artists as Rockwell Kent, Lynd Ward,
E. H. Suydam and a host of others, American Art Deco created the great
rhythms and other design elements that still influence our ways of seeing
today. |
|
With its stylized patterns of waves, fish, birds and stars,
On the Spanish Main is one of Suydam's most delightful Art Deco
woodcuts. This particular impression is inscribed by the artist and gifted
to a friend. |
