Alex R. Straker 'Alex Straker': Mainly self-taught, Alex Richard Straker began
painting landscapes in oils and watercolours in Ontario during the early
1930's. His art was frequently exhibited at this time in Haliburton, the
Muskoka area and elsewhere. In 1938, Alex Straker purchased and moved to the
Silver Spring's Lodge on Eagle Lake, South River, Ontario. He remained
there until 1943 when he relocated in British Columbia. |
|
While working in Ontario, Alex Straker was frequently commissioned
to paint scenes for various resorts and institutions. Such is the case
with, View from the Entrance to Limberlost Lodge, which was a resort
near Huntsville, Ontario. This original watercolour is indicative of Alex Straker's
fine art, particularly in its delineations of space and in its range of
colours and tones. |
