Note: |
Robert Stanley: A well known American printmaker
of the 1960's and 1970's, Robert Stanley studied at the Art Students League,
New York, and at the Brooklyn Museum Art School. His first one man show
took place at the Bianchini Gallery, New York, in 1965. His art is now
found in many major collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, New
York. |
|
In his original silkscreens, Stanley often explored an ordinary
scene through extra-ordinary perspectives. In a 1969 silkscreen entitled,
Miss Louisiana, he fractures a large image of a beauty queen into spots
and circles. In Cracker Jack, the refuse of consumer goods are randomly
heaped into a dumped pile and examined through an intricate black on black
printing. |
|
In 1971 Licht Editions commissioned twelve contemporary international
artists to create an original silkscreen for their 1972 Licht Editions
Serigraph Calendar. Contributing artists included John Wesley, Richard
Anuszkiewicz, Josef Levi, Charles Hinman, Paul Van Hoeydonck and Robert
Stanley. Each silkscreen was published in a limited, signed edition of
150 impressions. Cracker Jack was created for this set. |

From the collection of Roger Trlak and bearing his inventory
number, 'T-960', on the verso. Roger Trlak (1934-1975) established the
commercial art company of Martin-Trlak in Chicago. In 1972 he also opened
the RST Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona where he exhibited not only his
own large collection of mostly contemporary art but also held important
exhibitions of many modern artists. These Included such major American
and international printmakers as Joseph Hirsch, Luigi Lucioni, Birgit Skiold
and Paul Wunderlich. Among Trlak's closest friends in the arts community
were Raphael Soyer, Ivan Albright and Hans Burkhardt. Their original prints
and paintings were constantly exhibited at the RST Gallery until it was
closed in 1975 due to Trlak's untimely death. |
