Note: | John Jacob Stanley 'John Stanley': A twentieth century American painter and printmaker, John Jacob Stanley lived and worked in Cincinnati, New York and Hebron, Kentucky. He received a scholarship to study at the Art Academy of Cincinnati in 1948. There he studied under Arthur Helwig, Charles Cutler and Paul Chidlaw. John Stanley then received another scholarship from the Yale Summer Arts School, Norfolk, and received instruction from Josef Albers and Peter Blume. Shortly after he served three years with the United States Army in Germany, where he designed gravestones for post war casualties. |
Upon fulfilling his military obligations, John Jacob Stanley returned to the Art Academy of Cincinnati and graduated in 1955. After that time he was a regular exhibitor at galleries in New York City and Cincinnati and internationally at such exhibitions as the LX Biennale, Paris, France. | |
