Lawrence Beall Smith's "Museum Visitor" owes its genesis to a small black and white lithograph he completed in 1940 for the "Associated American Artists of New York". It proved so popular that Lawrence Beall Smith again attempted a variation upon the original image, this time greatly expanding its size and adding various shades of greens. The end result is this truly enchanting original lithograph, published in New York in 1946. This impression is printed upon toned laid paper and bearing the 'Chanson and Montgolfier' watermark, and with full margins as published in 1946. It is signed and dated in the stone by the artist. |
