Phyllis Sloane: Born in Massachusetts, Phyllis Sloane moved to Shaker
Heights, Ohio, when still a young child. She received her Bachelor of Fine
Arts (Industrial Design) from Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, in
1943. Her first exhibited art was shown that year at the Cleveland Museum
of Art. Since that time her prints and paintings have been the subject
of over two dozen one-woman shows as well as being included in over seventy
group shows. |

During her career Phyllis Sloane has received such major awards as the
Print Club of Philadelphia Purchase Award (1977), Oklahoma National Exhibition,
Graphics Award (1981), City of Cleveland, Visual Arts Award (1982), Miami
International Print Biennial, First Prize (1984) and the North Carolina
Print & Drawing Annual, Purchase Award (1985). Her art is included in the
permanent collections of Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, New
Mexico Museum of Fine Art, Santa Fe, Philadelphia Art Museum, Rutgers University,
The Massillon Museum, The Cleveland Museum of Art and the University of
New Mexico Art Museum, Albuquerque. In 2004 the Los Vegas Art Museum held
a large retrospective exhibition of her art. A long time resident of the
Cleveland area, Phyllis Sloane moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 2003. |

Phyllis Sloane's oeuvre consists of a remarkable variety in the medium of art,
etching, silkscreens, lithographs, woodcuts, linocuts, monotypes, enamels on copper, ceramic
tiles, and heat transfer prints. For many years her work in figure studies, still
lifes and landscapes have placed her art in high esteem. "Ginna and Birds" is an
original enamel on copper and is a fine example of her work in this medium. |
