Note:	Tavik Frantisek Simon 'T. F. Simon': A major Czech painter, etcher and woodcut artist, Tavik Frantisek Simon studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts, Prague. Earning a stipend from this institution, Simon traveled to Italy, Belgium, England and France. His first one man exhibition took place in Prague in 1905. In the following year Simon's art was the subject of another exhibition in Paris. By 1920 Simon's international reputation was firmly established with exhibitions in Chicago and New York.
	Tavik Frantisek Simon primarily made his reputation as a leading artist of the color etching. Woodcuts and wood engravings, however, also played a large role, particularly in smaller works of art and in ex-libris plates. An examination of his fine oeuvre indicates that where his etchings emphasized delicate colors and impressionistic tones, the woodcuts often examined elements of strong design and tonal values. In both mediums, T. F. Simon clearly excelled.
	During his career T. F. Simon lived and worked in both Paris and Prague. He also traveled extensively and etched and engraved views of New York, London, Prague, Holland, Spain, Morocco, Ceylon, India and Japan. Tavik Frantisek Simon was a professor of art at the Academy of Fine Arts, Prague, and a founding member (1917) and later chairman of the influential Hollar Association of Czech Graphic Artists.
	The Print Connoisseur published illustrated articles on contemporary etchers and engravers on a quarterly basis from January, 1920 to December, 1931. A minimum of one original print was commissioned for each issue and the more expensive, limited editions of 100 each contained a signed impression in pencil by the artist. During its decade of publishing such major artists as George Elbert Burr, Frank Benson, Norman Kent, Lynd Ward, Winkler, Preissig, Alan Lewis,J. J. Lankes and T. F. Simon contributed original etchings and woodcuts. This New York based publication was thus responsible for commissioning some of the finest original art of early twentieth century America.
	Etchings, woodcuts and wood engravings by European artists were also commissioned by The Print Connoisseur. Original Graphic art was contributed by French artists, such as Paul Mathey, Jacques Beltrand and Louis Godefroy, and by Czech artists, such as T. F. Simon and Vojtech Preissig.
	In the April, 1930 number of The Print Connoisseur original prints included a color woodcut by T. F. Simon, four woodcuts by Howard Simon and an etching by Will Simmons. T. F. Simon's View in Old Prague was printed on rose toned, laid paper and served as the front cover to the publication.

Condition:	Printed upon rose toned, laid paper and with full margins as published as the cover of The Print Connoisseur in April of 1930. Containing a small scratch mark (at the base of the statue) else a strongly printed, full color impression and in good condition throughout. View in Old Prague represents a prime, original example of the famous art of Tavik Frantisek Simon 'T. F. Simon'.
