Sir Frank Short's original etching, "A Cornfield, Ivinghoe, Buckinghamshire" after Peter de Wint dates from early in his career and was published in 1888. Besides creating etchings based upon his own designs, Sir Frank Short dedicated much of his oeuvre to interpreting the work of early nineteenth century British painters and his contemporaries in such intaglio media as etching, aquatint and mezzotint. Such is the case with "A Cornfield, Ivinghoe, Buckinghamshire", a landscape scene which is based upon a watercolour by the early nineteenth century English artist, Peter de Wint. |
