George H. Shorey 'George Shorey': An American painter, etcher,
engraver, illustrator and teacher, George Shorey studied art in New York
under Walter Shirlaw. He served as Director of the Artist-Artisan Institute
from 1898 to 1903 and later became the Director of the art department of
Browning School, New York. |

During his career George H. Shorey received a number of public
and church commissions to paint murals and design tablets. He also illustrated
a number of books such as, New York Parks, Old Kingston,
Cathedral of St. John the Divine and The Ascension. Known
mostly for his architectural and religious art, George Shorey's skills as a landscape
artist are clearly evident in this original drypoint engraving entitled,
The Heart of Vermont. |

Condition: |
Printed upon hand-made, laid paper and with wide, full margins.
Signed in pencil along the lower right margins and titled by the artist
to the lower left corner (under the mat). Containing slight light toning
and mat burning from a previous framing effort as well as several small
tears in the outer margins (well away from the actual engraving), else a
strongly printed impression with full burr and in good condition throughout.
The Heart of Vermont represents a prime, original example of the
art of George H. Shorey. |
