Note:	Robert Van Vorst Sewell: A fine landscape painter and etcher, Robert Van Vorst Sewell studied art in Paris under Lefebvre and Boulanger from 1883 to 1887. As early as 1888, Sewell's art was receiving much recognition, including the prestigious Hallgarten prize from the National Academy of Design. Robert Sewell was a full member of the Society of Mural Painters, the Architectural League of New York and was elected an Associate of the National Academy of Design in 1902.
	During his career, Robert Van Vorst Sewell devoted much of his time to depicting the scenery and architecture of European towns and cities. In fact, the last ten years of his life were spent as a resident of Italy. Most of Sewell's etchings, including this fine example, date from the last decade of the nineteenth century.
