Note:	Carl Clemens Schlichter was born in Bella Bella, British Columbia in 1912, where his parents were employed as medical missionaries to the native peoples. Carl Schlichter's first artistic interests were in the field of sculpture. He came to Toronto as a young man and studied under Emanuel Hahn and Elizabeth Wyn-Wood. During the Depression, he worked as a political artist. He had two one man shows in Toronto before leaving with the armed services for Europe in 1941.
	After the war, he joined the staff of the Toronto Art Gallery, under Arthur Lismer. In 1949, Carl Clemens Schlichter joined the teaching staff of the Montreal Museum of Fine Art. At that time he formed a close friendship with Goodridge Roberts and the two artists often painted together.
	Carl Schlichter moved back to Ontario about 1970. He was building a gallery north of Huntsville when he died.

Condition:	This is a beautiful example of Carl Clemens Schlichter's work. The drawing is unsigned and undated. Schlichter's widow thought it was made c. 1955. Containing full margins, there is slight creasing and soiling on the left side of the image. Otherwise, this original Carl Schlichter drawing is in good condition throughout.
