Anne Saunders: A fine Ontario painter and watercolourist, Anne Saunders was born in England and studies art in London at the Royal Academy Schools. She remained in England until 1939 when she moved to Ontario eventually settling in Hamilton. A full member of the woman's Art Association, Anne Saunders frequently exhibited her art in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and elsewhere.

During her career, Anne Saunders was known chiefly for her landscape compositions and floral studies. In this latter category, she excelled. Flowering Julip Branches is almost oriental in feeling, particularly in the manner of combining the bold simplicity of the blue background with the delicate and subtle drawing of the actual flowers. This is a superb and original watercolour.

Condition:

Painted upon fine, hand-made, laid watercolour paper and with full margins. Signed by Anne Saunders in pencil along the lower right margin. It is in near excellent condition throughout without a trace of light staining or discoloration.Flowering Julip Branches is a fine, original example of the art of Anne Saunders.
