Walter Sandstein's original drypoint engraving, Alte Frau (Old Woman), dates from the early twentieth century. It was published in Germany in a limited edition of one hundred signed impressions. Sandstein's masterful use of the strong, furrowed lines of the drypoint medium makes this both a fine portrait and a perceptive study of age.

Alte Frau is printed upon wove paper and with full margins as published in Munich around 1920 - 1930. It is signed, titled and numbered, 16/100, by the artist in pencil along the lower plate-mark. This portrait is a fine, original example of the engraved art by the German artist, Walter Sandstein.

Note:	Walter Sandstein: A Munich painter, etcher and engraver, Walter Sandstein exhibited his art in a number of German cities from about 1910 to 1935. He maintained a permanent studio in Munich until 1935. After that date his whereabouts are unknown.
	Walter Sanstein also illustrated a number of books, including, Wanderfahrten in den Bergen (1925).

Containing a very small scratch within the image, to the right of the old woman's face, else in good condition throughout and bearing the velvety lines of an early drypoint impression.
