Felix Achille Saint-Aulaire's original lithograph, Le coup de filet (Hauling in the Net) was published in Paris around 1835 by Aubert for the Revue des Peintres. This impression is printed upon early nineteenth century wove paper and bears the lithographer's name, printers address, and the title, 'A. St. Aulaire lith.', 'Imp. d'Aubert et Cie.', 'Le coup de filet' in the lower margin, also bearing the publication information 'Revue des Peintres' in the upper margin. Most of the lithographs published bywere based upon paintings and watercolours exhibited at the Paris Salon and elsewhere, and then translated into lithography by other hands. A smaller number of works, however, were both designed and lithographed by the same artist. Such is the case with this beautiful marine scene created by the French artist, Felix Achille Saint-Aulaire.

Note: Felix Achille Saint-Aulaire: A French painter and lithographer of the early nineteenth century, Felix Achille Saint-Aulaire studied art techniques in Paris under both Hippolyte and Jean-Francois Garneray. Saint-Aulaire specialized in marine scenes and exhibited his paintings and original lithographs at the Paris Salon from 1827 until 1838. It is believed that either an illness or accident cut short this artist's life and promising career.
  Le coup de filet (Hauling in the Net) was published by Revue des Peintres. This Paris based publication existed from approximately 1833 to 1839 and featured original lithographs from some of France's finest artists of the era, such as Honore Daumier, Benjamin Roubaud, Alphonse Bourdin, Menut Alophe, Felix Saint-Aulaire and Eugene Lepoittevin.
  Gabriel Auber, Charles Philipon, & La Maison Aubert: Founded in 1829 by Charles Philipon (Lyons, 1804 - Paris, 1862), La Maison Aubert was a bookshop specializing in satires, the sale of sheet prints, and illustrated books by the likes of Curmer, Janet, Didier and Challamel with illustrations sometimes printed by Aubert. Philipon’s Brother in law Gabriel Aubert (Lyon, 1784 – 1847), a French notary, publisher, printer, and editor of La Caricature, managed the firm of La Maison Aubert. Then around 1835 Aubert founded his own lithographic printing press, Aubert et Cie., Paris and soon after, partnered with Junca, the French lithographer, publisher, and printer, publishing lithographs under the firm name, Aubert et de Junca, Paris. Together, they printed and published some of the finest French lithographs of the period, many of which were included in La Revue des Peintres which featured lithographic prints after paintings, watercolors and drawings by contemporary artists of the period.

Condition: Printed c. 1835 upon early nineteenth century wove paper and bearing the lithographer's name, the printers address, and the title, 'A. St. Aulaire lith.', 'Imp. d'Aubert et Cie.', 'Le coup de filet' in the lower margin, also bearing the publication information 'Revue des Peintres' in the upper margin. Containing slight foxing in the outer margins, else a finely printed impression and in very good condition throughout. Le coup de filet (Hauling in the Net) represents a prime, original example of the French marine art of Felix Achille Saint-Aulaire.
