An original etching and drypoint, it is printed upon hand made, laid paper with the 'S Lay' watermark. This original impression of "Ponte Fabricio,Rome" is signed with Louis Rosenberg's 'L. C. R.' monogramme and dated in Roman numerals within the plate to the lower right and also signed by him in pencil under the plate-mark. |

Note: | Louis Conrad Rosenberg 'Louis Rosenberg': A prime American architectural etcher and engraver of the 1920's and 1930's era, Louis Conrad Rosenberg first studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He then enrolled at the Royal College of Art, London, to study etching techniques under Malcolm Osborne. Louis Rosenberg concluded his education in Rome at the American Academy. |
During his career, Louis Conrad Rosenberg etched and engraved many architectural views throughout both Europe and the United States. Of major interest however were the buildings of Rome, Venice and Constantinople, and he created an impressive collection of views of these three cities over of period of more than twenty years. For such fine work Louis Conrad Rosenberg was awarded the Silver Medal from the California Print Maker's Society (1924) and the Logan Medal from the Chicago Society of Etchers (1925 & 1927). | |
Louis Conrad Rosenberg was a full member of the Philadelphia Society of Etchers, the Brooklyn Society of Etchers, the Chicago Society of Etchers and the Royal Society of Painters, Etchers and Engravers, London. Today his original etchings and engravings are found in the following collections, the Smithsonian Institution, the Congressional Library, Washington, and the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum, London. | |
Ponte Fabricio, Rome was etched by Rosenberg in 1927. Most of his etchings and drypoints from this period were published in New York by A. C. & H. W. Dickens in signed, limited editions of seventy-five impressions. | |

Condition: | Printed upon hand made, laid paper with the 'S Lay' watermark and with margins extending about 1" from the plate-mark on all sides. Containing some matte burning in the outer margins and also faint light toning within the image, else a strongly printed, atmospheric impression and in good condition throughout. Signed with Rosenberg's 'L. C. R.' monogramme and dated in Roman numerals within the plate to the lower right and signed by him in pencil under the plate-mark. Ponte Fabricio, Rome represents a fine, original example of the great architectural art of Louis Rosenberg. |
