It promotes a beer produced by the Brasserie Laubenheimer, a brewery located on the Mezin road, 47600 Nerac (Lot-et-Garonne), south west of France. The Brasserie Laubenheimer was founded in 1828 by Jean Laubenheimer, and produced quality beer for over one hundred years. "Bieres Laubenheimer" is a fine example of artistic lithographic posters created by the French artist, Georges Ripart. |

The Art Nouveau movement reached its highest form of artistic expression in the large, lithographic posters of Lautrec, Mucha, Cheret, Steinlen, Grasset, Rhead, Bradley, Georges Ripart and others. The Lithograph printed in colours allowed these masters of the turn-of-the-century era to express themselves in broad lines and graceful applications of colours. Their art forever changed our way of seeing.
Brasserie Laubenheimer: This French lithographic advertising poster created by Georges Ripart portrays a cavalier on a white horse holding up a stein of frothy beer. The image promotes beer produced by the Brasserie Laubenheimer, an old brewery, located on the Mezin road, 47600 Nerac (Lot-et-Garonne), south west of France. The property extended over six acres, now considered part of the current Laubenheimer park. The Brasserie Laubenheimer was founded in 1828 by the Alsacien brewer, Jean Laubenheimer and produced quality beer for over one hundred years. By 1927, this modest family owned brewery, had grown into a large plant with electricity, automated bottling and renovated fermenting cellars and included a large brewery house and a malt house. The firm is also known as the Brasserie Malterie Laubenheimer. It is still possible to find old postcards and memorabilia that contain historical information and images of this wonderful old brewery. According to the information provided on the back of an old post card, the Brasseries de Nerac (Laubenheimer) 44 avenue Maurice Rontin (Route de Mezin), ceased its activity in 1940, and finally closed its doors in 1955.

Condition: | Printed by Bachollet in Paris between 1900 and 1925 with the Letterpress "Bieres Laubenheimer. Nerac (L-&-G)" and the artist's signature within the image. It also contains the text, "Affiches D'Art. Unis - France. BACHOLLET. 140 Rue St Maur -- Paris - XIe --" in the lower margin. The Vast Majority of these huge works from this important artistic era greatly suffer from acidic packing, folds, tears, staining and other forms of serious deterioration. Any Art Nouveau poster which passed into the hands of the public or into the destructive shops of early twentieth century framers is most often in miserable shape. |
Thankfully, this work of art is one of the few which escaped damage. It was originally rolled into a long drum and for decades locked away in an abandoned warehouse in Paris. Unlike its companions, therefore it has escaped the ravages of direct sunlight, acidic glues and matt boards and all the other components that have caused such destruction. Altogether, this is an important example of an original poster from its finest era and is in outstanding condition throughout.
