Cargo Ships

Marco Richterich's "Cargo Ships" is an original lithograph published between 1960 and 1970. The composition is dominated by strong horizontal and vertical forms which provide space, depth and even movement. Countering this and creating mass are the piles of rectangles representing the ship cargo holds and the circular forms of the funnels. "Cargo Ships" is a fine, original example of the lithographic art created by the twentieth century Swiss artist, Marco Richterich.

Note:	Marco Richterich: A Swiss painter and printmaker, Marco Richterich graduated from the Kantonalen Technikum in Biel in 1946. Concentrating upon landscapes, marine views and figure studies he began exhibiting his art internationally around 1950. Marco Richterich possessed working studios in two localities; Basel, Switzerland and Saint-Remy-de Provence, France. It is thus possible that "Cargo Ships" depicts vessels in the Port of Marseille, which is in close proximity to Saint Remy.
	Marco Richterich was a regular participant at exhibitions in France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy and elsewhere. Today his art is included in the collections of public museums in Basel, Biel and Lausanne.
