Note: Henry Webster Rice 'Henry W. Rice': A nineteenth century American landscape and marine artist, Henry Webster Rice studied art techniques under Ross Turner. Establishing a studio in Boston, Rice exhibited annually at the Boston Art Club from 1888 to 1907. He also exhibited at other major venues, such as the Art Institute of Chicago. Today the art of Henry W. Rice is included in the permanent collections of such institutions as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Portland Museum of Art, Maine, Farnsworth Art Museum, Rockland, Maine, and Washington University, Seattle.
  In 1883 the Art Department of the New England Manufacturers’ and Mechanics’ Institute, Boston, held a major exhibition of contemporary American art. Concentrating largely upon American drawings and etchings the exhibition catalogue listed 731 works of original art. Henry W. Rice’s original etching, "A Summer Afternoon", was included in this exhibition and bears the catalogue number, 547. *
