Note:	Elizabeth Piper: A British etcher and painter of the early twentieth century, Elizabeth Piper studied at the Clifton School of Art, Bristol and at the R.C.A. She later completed her education in both Belgium and Paris. She was appointed an Associate of the Royal Engravers in 1892 and was also a member of the Royal West of England Academy, as well, she was a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers. During her career, Elizabeth Piper exhibited her etchings and paintings at the Royal Academy, the Royal Engravers and she was one of forty-five British woment to be represented at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago and elsewhere. Among the many purchasers of her art were the city of Leeds and Her Majesty, Queen Victoria. She lived and worked in Chelsea, London and Stanmore, Middlesex.
	This original etching entitled, "Saint John Baptist, Yeovil"hails from a series of etchings by Elizabeth Piper depicting English churches entitled, "The Church Towers of Somerset: A Series of Fifty-one Etchings by E. Piper R.P.E., With Introduction and Descriptive Articles by John Lloyd Warden Page" (J. L. W. Page), published in parts from 1894 to 1898 by Frost & Reed in Bristol. These etchings clearly show her delicate talents at rendering architecture and the surrounding landscapes. In 1899, Elizabeth piper also contributed ten original etchings to another portfolio entitled, "Historic Edinburgh: Ten Etchings, E. Piper. Member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers" published by Goupil & Co., Fine Art Publishers, Jean Boussod, Manzi, Yoyant & Co. (Successors)., Fine Art Publishers to the Queen, 25, Bedford Street, Strand, London, and was limited to one hundred and twenty-five sets, all signed in pencil. Throughout her career, Elizabeth Piper devoted her efforts almost exclusively to her greatest artistic interest, the medium of etching documenting significant architectural sites both interiors and exteriors throughout the United Kingdom, France and Beldgium.
