Stephen Parrish's "November" is an original etching printed upon fine hand made, laid paper and with full margins as published by Dana Estes and Charles E. Lauriat, Boston for "The American Art Review" in 1880. It is signed in the lower right corner of the plate. In this landscape scene, the artist excelled at capturing both the detail and atmospheric effects that most describe the month of November. This etching is a fine, original example of the nineteenth century landscape art created by the American artist, Stephen Parrish.

Note: Stephen Parrish: Now considered among the first rank of the American etching revival, Stephen Parrish studied etching techniques under Peter Moran, in Philadelphia. His first etchings date from 1879 and during the following years he created a fine number of landscape and marine views of the eastern United States, Canada, England and France. Stephen Parrish also taught art at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and was a full member of both the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers, London, and the New York Etching Club.
  Stephen Parrish moved to Cornish New Hampshire in 1895. His son was none other than the famous twentieth century painter and illustrator, Maxfield Parrish.
  The American Art Review. A Journal Devoted to the Practical theory, History, and Archaeology of Art: Inspired by the European etched art of James McNeill Whistler, Charles Meryon, Sir Francis Seymour Haden and others, a large number of American artists became seriously interested in the art of etching by 1875. A primary catalyst to the etching revival in America was the journal, "The American Art Review" (1879-1881). Founded and edited by Sylvester Rosa Koehler it commissioned American artists for original etchings. Contributing etchers included such famous artists as Stephen Parrish, Thomas and Peter Moran, Otto Bacher, J. M. Falconer, Robert Swain Gifford, Henry Farrer, Samuel Colman, Robert Swain Gifford and James D. Smillie. Stephen Parrish contributed only one etching, "November", to this publication.
  Due mostly to its lavish production costs the journal lasted only slightly over two years. The finely printed etchings it produced, however, served as a cornerstone for the many great American etchings of the early twentieth century.

Condition: Printed upon fine hand made, laid paper and with full margins as published by Dana Estes and Charles E. Lauriat, Boston for "The American Art Review" in 1880. Signed in the lower right corner of the plate. A splendidly printed, tonal impression and in excellent condition throughout. This original etching stands as a prime example of the nineteenth century American art of Stephen Parrish.
