Pablo Palazuelo: Currently regarded as
one of the preeminent Spanish artists of the twentieth century, Pablo
Palazuelo initially studied architecture and was educated at the School
of Arts and Crafts, Oxford University, England. He returned to live in
Madrid in 1939 and began his career as a painter. At first influenced
by Cubist elements within the art of Picasso and Cezanne, Pablo Palazuelo moved
increasingly towards abstraction. In this regard, the paintings of Paul
Klee proved a major inspiration. |
|
Pablo Palazuelo went to live and work in Paris in 1948. His work
was shortly thereafter exhibited throughout France and he was invited
to annually exhibit with the Salon de Mai. In 1950, Palazuelo joined the
influential Galerie Maeght and in 1952 he received the coveted Kandinsky
Prize. In 1958, Palazuelo also received the Carnegie Prize from the United
States. |
|
Palazuelo first experimented with original printmaking in
1950 and with sculpture in 1954. From this point onwards he dedicated
his art mostly to these mediums because they best expressed his newly
discovered focus on the nature and power of form. Calling his new artistic
experiments, "Trans-Geometria", he dedicated his creativity to "the rhythms
of nature translated into plastic art" and to the inner meaning of form. |
|
Pablo Palazuelo returned to live in Spain in 1969. He currently
resides in the Extremadura region. As one would expect from such a distinguished
artist, his sculptures and prints are in most major Spanish collections,
including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte, Madrid, and the Museum of
Contemporary Art, Barcelona. |
