Malcolm Osborne's "L'Oiseau de Bourges" is an original drypoint engraving created by the British artist in 1932. This engraving is printed upon hand-made, laid paper and with wide, full margins as published in London by H. C. Dickins. This impression is signed in pencil under the plate-mark by the artist. Note: Malcolm Osborne: A highly influential English etcher of landscapes, urban views and portraits, Malcolm Osborne studied printmaking techniques under Sir Frank Short, at South Kensington. When Frank Short retired in 1924, Malcolm Osborne succeeded him as the Head of the etching and engraving school. From this position he taught many fine etchers, including Bouverie Hoyton and Geoffrey Wedgewood. Malcolm Osborne was a full member of the Royal Academy and President of the Royal Engravers. Both the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, include his original etchings in their permanent collections.
  Malcolm Osborne published his first etching in 1904. By 1940 he had created slightly over one hundred etchings, drypoints and aquatints dealing with British and Continental landscapes and town scenes as well as portraits. Most of his fine etchings (including this original example of L'Oiseau de Bourges) were published by H. C. Dickins in editions ranging from fifty to one hundred and fifty impressions.

Condition: Printed upon hand-made, laid paper and with wide, full margins as published in London in 1932. Containing a tear in the upper margin (central) which ends about 1/2" away from the plate-mark, as well as colour pencil marks on the verso. Else a finely printed, strong impression and in good condition throughout. Signed and dated in the plate (to the lower left) and signed in pencil under the plate-mark. L'Oiseau de Bourges represents a superb, original example of the etched art of Malcolm Osborne.
  Framed in period English pressed wood and bearing the label of a Bristol framer on the verso.
