An original watercolor by the artist, Jessie Phil Olmes, Marina dates from the latter 20th century. For most of the artist's career, J. P. Olmes lived and worked in Cincinnati. His paintings and watercolors, however, depict landscape and marine scenes from New England to California. With its brilliant applications of color and form and its play of light and shade, Marina represents a most accomplished work of art by this American painter.

Note:	Jessie Phil Olmes: An American painter and watercolor artist, Jessie Phil Olmes came to Cincinnati in 1944 to teach art techniques at various schools. Olmes also assumed the post of art instructor at the Cincinnati Women's Club. J. P. Olmes exhibited his art in Cincinnati and throughout Ohio from approximately 1945 to 1985. He was a full member of the Cincinnati Art Club.
	Many of Jessie Phil Olmes's works of art depict landscapes and seascape scenes from New England and California. His watercolors are particularly noteworthy for their use of texture, tone and color, as is Marina, where the entire composition is constructed with sure, rapid strokes. This can only indicate the hand of a gifted painter.
