Note: | Kichiemon Okamura: A Japanese fabric and ceramic artist, illustrator, dyer, paper and print maker, Kichiemon Okamura is best known as a leading artist of Mingei -- which in Japan generally means folk art. As early as 1950, Okamura's folk art was included in major exhibitions both in Japan and internationally. As well the artist has authored such books as "Handicrafts of Okinawa" (1964) and "Folk Kilns: Famous Ceramics of Japan" (1981), as well as co-authoring "Folk Arts and Crafts of Japan" (1973). Today the art of Kichiemon Okamura is included in many major collections, such as the New York Public Library. |

The letters appear in black and green while the animals are composed in browns, reds, greys, blacks and blues. Condition: | Printed upon fine, hand-made, kozo paper and with full, deckled margins. Stamped with artist's red seal and signed in pencil along the lower margin. A finely printed impression with full, unfaded colors, very faint matt shading about 1/4 from the outer margins, otherwise, in excellent condition throughout. "Japanese Alphabet-letter 'HE'" represents a fine, original example of the famous folk art of Kichiemon Okamura. |
