Charles Offin's, original etching "Planters, Majorca" is printed upon wove paper and with full margins as published by "The Colophon" in 1933. It is signed in the plate by the artist to the lower right. "Planters, Majorca" depicts a farm scene where a woman and a man are planting the seed in the field. In the background, a mule is pulling around the large stone seed grinder. This is a fine, original example of the landscape art created by the American artist, Charles Z. Offin.

Note:	Charles Z. Offin 'Charles Offin': Important both as an artist and arts patron, Charles Z. Offin created grants for Brooklyn, Guggenheim and Tel Aviv museums as well as funding arts project for numerous universities. In fact, a gallery of the Metropolitan Museum is named after Charles Offin in recognition of his gifts to that institution. Charles Offin served as art editor of The Brooklyn Eagle and published the magazine, Pictures on Exhibit.
	During his career, Charles Offin exhibited his art in New York, Boston, Washington, Chicago and elsewhere. Etching was of primary importance within his artistic oeuvre, and, in this capacity, he was named director of the Etcher's Guild.

	"The Colophon" is well known to collectors of both original printmaking and the book arts. Based in New York it published quarterly issues pertaining to these subjects during the 1930's and 1940's. (In its later years it changed it name to "The New Colophon".) Some issues contained an original wood engraving, silkscreen, etching, linocut or lithograph commissioned by the publishers. Such highly regarded artists of the period as Stow Wengenroth, Paul Landacre, Emile Ganso, Leonard Pytlak, Charles Offin, Thomas Nason and David Milne contributed original works of graphic art. This original etching entitled, "Planters, Majorca" was published in 1933 and hails from this source. "The Colophon" published its prints in editions ranging from 1,750 to 2,500.
