Tighe O'Donoghue Ross, "And the New Sun Rose Bringing the New Year": This original color aquatint is printed upon pure cotton paper with the 'C. M. Fabriano' watermark and with full, deckled margins as published in New York in an edition of one hundred impressions. it is signed and numbered by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. "And the New Sun Rose Bringing the New Year" is a fine, original example of the contemporary Irish and American art of Tighe O'Donoghue Ross. At the core of Tighe O'Donoghue Ross's intriguing imagery is his interest in medieval literature and legend as well as Celtic and Irish mythology and folklore. Such is the case with "And the New Sun Rose Bringing the New Year". These words comprise the last line of Alfred Lord Tennyson's, "Idylls of the King: The Passing of Arthur". The black ship within the image is the "dusky barge, Dark as a funeral scarf from stem to stern, ....", in which the dying King is placed. With Arthur's demise, "The old order changeth, yielding place to the new.". |
