Rowney & Co., around 1860 at 52 Rathbone Place, & 29 Oxford Street. This lithograph is based upon one of Oakley's gipsy paintings. It is No. 57 from a series entitled, Studies in two Crayons, after Various Artists. "Fortune Teller " is a fine, original example of the portrait art created by the British artist, Octavius Oakley. |

Note: | Octavius Oakley: A rustic genre and portrait painter, mainly in watercolor, Octavius Oakley came to work in London in 1841. He was elected as a full member of the Royal Watercolor Society in 1844. In addition to portraits, he painted landscapes with rustic figures and gipsies, which earned him the nickname of 'Gipsy Oakley'. This nineteenth century lithograph entitled, Fortune Teller is obviously based on one of these compositions. |

Condition: | Printed on nineteenth century wove paper and with full margins. A very slight tear exists along the left hand margin and another along the lower margin, also there is a crease in the lower left right margin. The damage does not intrude into the image. Else, it is in condition throughout. Fortune Teller is a fine, original example of the genre portraits of Octavius Oakley. |
