Note:	One of the greatest periods of Japanese art occurred during the 1930's. Such masters of painting, watercolour and woodcut designs as Shoson, Hasui, Goyo, Yoshida and others emerged to produce their best works during this decade.
	Landscapes, animal studies, portraits and depictions of actors were prominent. Many artists tended to speciealize in one of these genres, striving to perfect their art within this area. One of the most interesting artists of bird life was Numaike. All known examples of his art are in this demanding field, where precision and subtle colouration are crucial. Numaike's studies superbly capture the character of each bird without sacrificing accuracy. This original watercolor entitled, "A Pair of Birds" is obviously one of his finest works.
