Les Deux Conseuses (The Two Seamstresses)

Louis Marcel Myr's original drypoint engraving, "Les Deux Conseuses (The Two Seamstresses)" is printed upon hand-made, laid paper with the 'BFK Rives' watermark and with large, deckled margins as published in the small edition of only twenty five impressions in France around 1935. It is signed in pencil by the artist under the plate-mark and also numbered. This scarce and original drypoint engraving is a superb example of the graphic art created by the French artist, Louis Myr.

Note: Louis-Marcel Myr 'Louis Myr': An outstanding French engraver, etcher and illustrator, Louis-Marcel Myr first studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon. He then completed his education at the Ecole Nationale des Arts-Decoratifs, Paris. During the 1930's, Myr's art was frequently exhibited at both the Salon des Tuileries and at the Salon Nationale Independant. Within several years, however, his drypoints and etchings had received international recognition at expositions in Amsterdam, Copenhagen and London. A major collector of Louis Myr's paintings and engravings was Queen Wilhelmina of Holland.
  Besides creating individual engravings and etchings, Louis-Marcel Myr was also commissioned to illustrate a number of fine books with his original graphic art. Two of his most famous works in this medium are, Pierre Benoit's, Mademoiselle de la Ferte (1932) and Octave Mirbeau's, Le Journal d'une femme de chambre.
  Louis Myr's Les Deux Conseuses dates from the 1930's decade and is a most stunning interior scene in the drypoint medium. It was published in a lone edition of but twenty-five, signed impressions.
