Alice Harold Murphy: A talented painter
and engraver of figure studies and landscapes, Alice Harold Murphy studied
art at Parsons School of Design, the Art Students League, New York, the
National Academy of Design and the Grand Chaumiere, Paris. During her
successful career, Murphy received many awards from such institutions
as the National Association of Women Artists (1946) the Springfield Museum
of Art (1943), Best Prints of the Year (1936, 1942 & 1947) and the
National Academy of Design (1951). Currently, the paintings and engravings
of Alice Harold Murphy are included in the following collections; the
New York Public Library, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the University
of Maine, the Philadelphia Artist Alliance and the Library of Congress,
Washington, DC. |

Artist at Work was commissioned by the Associated
American Artists of New York in 1946. Since its creation in the mid 1930's,
the Associated American Artists sought out original graphic art from such
great masters as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, Reginald Marsh and others.
In later decades, contributing artists included Alice Harold Murphy, Jack
Levine, Chaim Koppelman, Joseph Margulies and Sidney Chafetz. Most original
prints published by the A.A.A. were in editions ranging from 125 to 250
impressions. |
