Note: | John B. Moll 'John Moll': Known for his fine paintings, lithographs and illustrations of Delaware and Maryland, John Moll studied art at the School of Industrial Art, Philadelphia, and at the Wilmington Academy of Art, under Frank Schoonover and N. C. Wyeth. John Moll moved to Middletown, Delaware in the early 1930's and worked for Delaware's Works Progress Administration, creating drawings and paintings detailing that state's history. He was also the major illustrator of the book, 'Delaware, A Guide to the First State'. |
In 1946 John Moll moved to Oxford, Maryland, where he established a permanent studio for his freelance art. During the following years he was frequently commissioned for his murals and illustrations to such books as 'Delaware Poems' (1943), 'St. Michaels, the Town that Fooled the British' (1971) and 'Maryland's Flavor' (1981). As well he created a number of fine lithographs mostly dealing with historically important landmarks of Maryland. Such is the case with this original lithograph entitled, 'Annapolis State House'. This famous structure, of course, rises above the colonial homes that line the street. | |
