Note: | Charles McKenzie 'Charlie McKenzie': Born and raised in Scotland, Charles McKenzie left school at the age of fifteen to serve a six year apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker. He moved to the Ottawa region in 1954 and initially worked as both a cabinetmaker and as a restorer of antique furniture for a local auction house. He retired from the auction gallery in 2004. |
Mainly self taught, Charlie McKenzie began painting in 1963. His first one man show was held in 1971 at Gallery 93, Ottawa, Ontario. Charlie McKenzie's paintings, most of which are abstracted landscapes, are executed in oil, water colour or pastel. The artist is also known for his sculpture in stone, marble, wood and ivory. Today Charles McKenzie is represented in private collections in Scotland, England, France, the United States, Canada and elsewhere. | |
