Ossip Leonovich Linde 'Ossip Linde': An American painter and
etcher, Ossip Leonovich Linde moved from Russia to Chicago as a young
man. He studied art techniques at both the Art Institute of Chicago and
at the Academie Julian, in Paris. From 1903 to 1911, in fact, he lived
and worked in the French capitol and received a gold medal from the Paris
Salon in 1910. Delft, an etching which depicts this historic Dutch city,
was probably created around this time. |

In 1911, Ossip Linde returned to the United States and settled
permanently in Westport, Connecticut. During the following years he exhibited
his art at such institutions as the Salmagundi Club, Pennsylvania Academy,
Art Institute of Chicago and at the National Academy of Design. Ossip Linde
was a full member of the Allied Artists of America, the Palette and Chisel
Club, Chicago, and the Salmagundi Club. Today his etchings and paintings
are included in such collections as the Albany Institute of History and
Art, the Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, the Pennsylvania Academy of
Fine Arts, Philadelphia, the Art Institute of Chicago and the National
Academy of Design, New York. |
