Title: |
Endless Night |
Artist: |
Kurosaki, Akira (Dalian, Manchuria, 1937 - Resides,
Kyoto, Japan) |
Date: |
1971 |
Medium: |
Original Woodcut |
Note: |
"These prints remind one of a theater stage before the
opening of a play, with staircases leading nowhere at all, boxes of assorted
sizes, some bathed in spotlights, cushions, balls and assorted props. Even
the vertical strips of color that lead the eye into the scene resemble
stage wings and backdrops. Kurozaki's repeated use of royal reds and purples
is as much a hallmark as his compositional style. These deep pigments when
applied to absorbent Japanese paper resemble velvets and further augment
the theatrical impression. Is Akira Kurosaki saying something about the stage
of life?" *
