Hanns Kobinger's original charcoal drawing, "Kleehoven" is drawn upon a large sheet of thick, wove paper and with full margins as created by the artist in 1946. It is signed and dated by Kobinger in pencil along the lower margin. This drawing may possibly depict a portion of the artist's Grundlsee house. A Kobinger drawing in the collection of the Neue Galerie Linz, entitled, "Wallern" seems to be the same structure from a different perspective. "Kleehoven" is a superb, original example of the famous landscape art created by the Austrian artist, Hanns Kobinger (Hans Kobinger). |

Note: | Hanns Kobinger (Hans Kobinger): An eminent twentieth century Austrian painter and printmaker, Hanns Kobinger attended the Linz art school of Matthias May in his youth. His first career was actually that of an administrator but a severe accident in 1928 caused him to focus solely upon art. For the following several years Kobinger traveled and worked abroad, primarily in Germany, Italy and Dalmatia, creating works of art particularly in the mediums of the woodcut and linocut. |
Upon his return to Austria, Hanns Kobinger settled in the Grundlsee area where he remained for the rest of his life. During these years he assumed the unofficial title of 'Painter of Grundlsee'. Officially, however, this great landscape artist received many awards and decorations, including the prestigious 'Silver Decoration of the Republic of Austria'. One of Austria's finest museums -- the Neue Galerie of Linz -- lists and illustrates thirty of Hanns Kobinger's drawings and prints in its on line catalogue. *
This large and impressive Kobinger drawing may possibly depict a portion of the artist's Grundlsee house. A Kobinger drawing in the collection of the Neue Galerie Linz, entitled, Wallern, and dated 1959, might be of the same structure from a different perspective. In any case, this original drawing is a magnificent example of the artist's work.
