It is printed on fine chine colle and impressed onto a large sheet of thick, wove paper. It bears the publisher's address under the etching: "Zwei Studienkopfe, Originalradierung von (Original etching by) E. Klotz, Pan 1 3."

Note:	Ernst Klotz: A late nineteenth and early twentieth century German painter, printmaker and metalwork designer, Ernst Klotz studied art techniques under Frans von Defregger, Munich, and Carl Frithjof Smith, Weimar. He exhibited his art in Leipzig, Berlin, Vienna and with the Secessionists in Munich.
	Around 1898 Ernst Klotz introduced a new medium of printmaking which incorporated both intaglio and planographic methods. He called his invention both "malertypie" and "malerradierungen". Several of his contemporaries, including Thomas Theodore Heine and Oscar Leonhard Geyer, began creating 'malertypies'. Today public museums in Leipzig and elsewhere in Germany house examples of Ernst Klotz's art in their collections.
	Pan: During the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century leading art journals around the world published original etchings, lithographs and woodcuts on a regular basis. Some of the greatest prints from this vital era were commissioned and published by The Studio, in London, Pan, in Germany, The Print Connoisseur, in America and Vervielfaltigende Kunst, in Vienna.
	Pan was the first German journal to commission independent works of original graphic art. During its five year history (1895 - 1900) it published a valuable number of lithographs, woodcuts and etchings, by leading German printmakers. Zwei Studienkopfe by Ernst Klotz hails from this source.
