Date: c. 1970
Medium: Original Etching & Aquatint
Publisher: Associated American Artists, New York

Note: Peter Klitsch: A modern Austrian painter, etcher, woodcut and stained glass artist, Peter Klitsch is the son of the actor, Wilhelm Klitsch de Verne. He studied painting and etching at the Academy for Applied Art, Vienna (1951) and at the Royal University, Stockholm (1954). Klitsch first began to exhibit his paintings in Salzburg and elsewhere in 1959. During this period he also spent considerable time as a race car driver and as a pilot.
In 1967, Peter Klitsch visited Indonesia and spent three months on the Island of Bali. Influenced by Balinese culture and religion he exhibited the art he created there in Vienna several months later. In the following year he made his first of many trips to Japan. Peter Klitsch both lived and studied in the United States and South America during the early 1970's. Girl from Lothlorien dates from this period of his career.
In 1984 the etchings and woodcuts of Peter Klitsch were the subject of a one man exhibition at the Albertina, Vienna. Since that time his fine graphic art has been exhibited in Rome, Berlin and many more major European cities. Peter Klitsch has also served as a guest professor at the University of Okinawa, Japan.
Dreams have always been the prime motivation of Peter Klitsch's art. Girl from Lothlorien is typical of his best etchings, where he combines seemingly disconnected elements to produce a unified, surrealist image. An old oak tree, the remains of a galleon, a desolate landscape and a dangerously tempting nude are the key ingredients of this haunting composition.
Source: Girl from Lothlorien was commissioned by the Associated American Artists of New York in a sole limited edition of 250 impressions. Since its creation in the mid 1930's the Associated American Artists commissioned original graphic art from such great masters as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, Reginald Marsh and others. Eberhard Eggers, Peter Klitsch, Robert Bero, David Shapiro, Jack Levine, Chaim Koppelman, Joseph Margulies, James Kearns, Gregory Masurovsky, Jack Coughlin and Sidney Chafetz.
